What is a stroke?

A stroke occurs when there is a sudden interruption of blood flow to the brain. Brain cells can’t get the nutrients they need and can be damaged or begin to die. The best way to combat strokes is to know the signs and make healthy lifestyles changes to prevent them. 

 

Signs of a stroke

  • Face drooping
  • Numbness or weakness (especially on one side of the body)
  • Trouble speaking or understanding speech
  • Trouble seeing

How to prevent a stroke: 

  • Eat healthy
  • Exercise regularly
  • Avoid smoking
  • Drink less alcohol
  • Keep blood pressure and cholesterol low
